Alloys of which main component is tungsten, additions – mainly high-melting metals (molybdenum, tantalum, niobium, rhenium, zirconium, hafnium, thorium), as well as iron, nickel, cobalt.
We buy the following scrap tungsten alloy:
- Rolling rings
- Heating elements
Triple alloys with nickel and copper, called heavy alloys for plastic forming; used in the electrical industry (among others for manufacture of thermocouples, heating elements), electronics, aerospace and rocketry. Alloys of tungsten with high-melting metals, e.g. with molybdenum (15–50%), rhenium (26%), have a high melting point and extremely high strength at high temperatures, however, are brittle at low temperatures, have high density and exhibit no oxidation resistance over temperature of 600°C; these alloys are used experimentally in the aviation and aerospace construction. Also sinters of tungsten and thorium oxide (ThO2) are used, e.g. in manufacture of electrodes in electron tubes.
